PERFORM NON - BITUMINOUS CARRIAGEWAY, SHOULDER & WALKWAY MAINTENANCE

This module equips learners with the knowledge, practical skills, and attitudes required to carry out effective maintenance of non-bituminous pavements. Learners will develop competence in identifying pavement defects, assessing their causes and severity, planning maintenance activities, selecting appropriate materials, tools, and equipment, and performing maintenance works safely and efficiently.

The module covers the maintenance of non-bituminous pavement structures such as gravel roads, murram roads, cobblestone pavements, and other unsealed road surfaces. Learners will gain practical experience in activities including inspection and assessment of pavement conditions, drainage maintenance, pothole repair, grading, reshaping, compaction, replacement of damaged materials, and restoration of pavement surfaces.

Emphasis is also placed on workplace safety, environmental protection, quality control, proper use of tools and equipment, and teamwork. Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to contribute effectively to maintaining safe, durable, functional, and sustainable non-bituminous road infrastructure.

PERFORM STEEL BAR WORKS

The course Perform Steel Bar Works equips learners with the knowledge and skills required to carry out steel reinforcement works safely and effectively. Learners will interpret drawings, identify the required materials, determine quantities, select appropriate tools and equipment, and install the steel bar bending bench. They will learn how to accurately cut, bend, and fix steel bars according to drawings and work specifications. The course also covers the proper installation of steel frames to ensure strength, stability, and accuracy. Finally, learners will perform closing activities by cleaning the workplace, tools, and equipment and storing them properly according to regulations and environmental requirements.

This module describes the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to test aggregates. It is intended for learners pursuing RQF level IV in Public Works. At the end of this module the learners will be able to perform sand equivalent test, perform flakiness index and elongation test, perform aggregate crushing value test, perform aggregates impact value test, perform Los Angeles abrasion test and perform coarse aggregate water absorption test.
