Operating Farm Machinery is a practical agricultural module that equips learners with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, inspect, operate, maintain, and safely handle farm machinery and equipment used in crop and livestock production.
The module covers the main types of farm machinery, their components, functions, operating principles, and appropriate uses. Learners are introduced to machines such as tractors, ploughs, harrows, trailers, planters, harvesters, chaff cutters, forage choppers, grain millers, sprayers, pumps, and other agricultural equipment.
The course also emphasizes pre-operation inspection and preparation, including checking fuel, engine oil, coolant, tires, hydraulic systems, belts, moving parts, and safety devices before starting machinery. Learners develop practical skills in starting, controlling, adjusting, and operating machines correctly according to the farming operation and field conditions.
A major component of the module is farm machinery safety. Learners learn how to use personal protective equipment (PPE), follow operating procedures, recognize hazards, prevent accidents, and respond appropriately to emergencies. The module also covers routine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, storage, and basic troubleshooting to improve machine performance and extend equipment lifespan.
