What is a Timer Switch?
Definition
A timer switch is a switch that is controlled by a clock to turn on or off at specific times.
How does it work?
When a switch is in the 'on' position, and its timer is set for 10 minutes, the switch will automatically turn itself off when the timer has calculated that 10 minutes have passed. The switch can also be set to change from 'off' to 'on,' and the timer can be set for different lengths of time as needed.
Categories of timer switch: analog and digital
Analog timer switch: This device calculates time using clockwork gears and a manual energy source such as a spring. An analog timer is turned on by manually twisting the dial to put tension on the spring, and then allowing it to unwind and count down the time. It does not require electricity to run.
Digital timer switch: This device includes digital and not manual parts. It runs on electricity, not the tension applied by spinning a dial. The amount of time is entered using a keypad and an electronic screen. It can be much more precise than an analog timer.
