ROOTS AND TUBERS GROWING-Francoise

Root and tuber crops are a staple food and main source of calories for an estimated 700 million people all around the world.  The most widely produced and consumed is cassava, Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes, but other important crops in this group include yam and talon. Roots and tubers are highly perishable and as a result, post-harvest losses can be substantial.  They therefore require specialized post-harvest handling, storage and preservation techniques in order to minimize losses, extend shelf-life and maintain quality. The module will allow the learner to establish, maintain and harvest Cassava, Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes, Taro, yam crops.
