Post-Operative Care
Appropriate wound aftercare is important to ensure that the wound heals as quickly and healthy as possible without complications.
Key elements of post-operative wound management include:
- Timely review of the wound
- Appropriate cleansing (using sterile and electrolyte balanced solution line normal saline), and dressing of the wound
- Recognizing any complications or infection and intervening quickly
- Keeping wounds clean
- Timely dressing change and appropriate dressing choice (use of autolytic debridement when needed)
- Using antibiotic treatments where needed
