Below are the steps that show how each of the ingredients in the previous application activity were calculated:

Step 1: Amount of ingredients needed to make the standard cake

  • Soft wheat flour: 1 kg
  • Water: 500 ml = 0.5 kg
  • Fat: 400 g = 0.4 kg
  • Sugar: 300 g = 0.3 kg
  • Baking powder: 32 g = 0 .032 kg
  • Milk: 62 ml = 0.062 kg
  • Eggs: 5 = 300 g = 0.3 kg
  • Vanilla: 5ml = 0.005 kg

Step 2: Amount of ingredients needed to make 30 cakes (100g)

30 cakes (100 g) = 3000 g = 3 kg

Knowing that for standard cake the weight of baked cake = 2.384 kg

 So, 2.384 kg = 23.8 cakes weighing 100 g each.

a) Wheat Flour

If 2.384 kg of baked cake = 1 kg of wheat flour

3kg of baked cake = 1 * 3 / 2.384 = 1.26 kg of wheat flour

 b) Water

If 2.384 kg of baked cake = 0.5 kg of water

3 kg of baked cake = 0.5 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.63 kg of water

c) Fat

If 2.384 kg of baked cake = 0.4 kg of fat,

3 kg of baked cake = 0.4 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.5 kg = 500 g of fat

  d) Sugar

If 2.384kg of baked cake = 0.3 kg of sugar,

3kg of baked cake = 0.3 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.378 kg = 378 g of sugar

e) Baking Powder

If 2.384 kg of baked cake = 0.032 kg of baking powder,

3kg of baked cake = 0.032 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.04 kg = 40 g baking powder

f) Milk

If 2.384 kg of baked cake = 0.062 kg of milk,

3 kg of baked cake = 0.062 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.078 kg = 78 gr of milk

g) Eggs

If 2.384kg of baked cake = 0.3 kg of eggs,

3 kg of baked cake = 0.3 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.378 kg = 378 g of eggs

h) Vanilla

If 2.384 kg of baked cake = 0.005 of vanilla,

3 kg of baked cake = 0.005 * 3 / 2.384 = 0.006 kg = 6 g of vanilla
